Dr Andrew Barnes is a lecturer in community ecology at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. He is broadly interested in the impacts of global change drivers on natural systems, with a particular focus on both aboveground and below-ground invertebrate communities. Andrew’s research is aimed at understanding how environmental changes alter the seemingly complex relationships between biodiversity, food web structure, and ecosystem functioning. Andrew first became interested in dung beetles during his Master’s research when he studied the influence of edge effects and habitat restoration on communities of native dung beetles in Nigeria. Within Theme 6 of DBEE, he is now involved in studying the supply of ecosystem services by introduced dung beetles in New Zealand and their effects on below-ground food webs.
