Nouvelles donnees sur la biogeographie de Copris umbilicatus dans les Bouches-du-Rhone et reflexion sur l'interet du pastoralisme en region mediterraneenne (Coleoptera Scarabaeidae)

The dung beetle Copris umbilicatus Abeille de Perrin (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae) lives in some southern French and European calcareous grasslands. The recent observation of this beetle on the Sainte-Victoire Mountain allows to specify its biogeography for the Bouches-du-Rhône Department (France). This fact, influenced by climatic and anthropic conditions, highlights the important role of some traditional land use practices, such a pastoralism, for the conservation of Mediterranean type ecosystems.
