A comparative analysis of the beetle fauna of the families Meiolonthidae, Scarabaeidae, Trogidae and Passalidae established in the humid mountains of Zacualtipán, Molango, Atezca, Otongo and Tlancfiinol, in the Northeast of Hidalgo, Mexico, is presented. The data were obtained between 1975 and 1981 during 1,360 days of collection in pine forests, oak forests, montane cloud forest, evergreen tropical forest, induced grasslands and secondary vegetation, established between 630 and 2,100 m of altitude. So recorded 12 subfamilies, 27 tribes, 68 genera and 180 species. the greatest specific diversity corresponds to Melolonthinae (40 spp.), Rutelinae (32 spp.), Scarabaeinae (29 spp.), Dynastinae (28 spp., and Aphodiinae (18 spp.). 50% of the species are concentrated in the genera: Phyllnphaga (24 spp.l, Anomala (1 2 spp.}, Cyclocephala (9 spp.), Diplotaxis (8 spp.), Euphoria (8 spp.), Onthopitagus (8 spp.), Aphodius (8 spp.), Plusiotis (7 spp.) and Ataenius (7 spp.). the most abundant species are: Phyllophaga ravida, Ph. obsoleta, Polyphylla hammondi, Plusiotis adelaida, Chrysma rnacropus. Anomalous aff. inconstans, Cyclocephala jalapensis, C. lucida, Strategus aloeus, Deltochilum gibbüsum, Onthophagus cyanellus, Odontotaenlus zodiacus, and Heliscus tropicus. This fauna has 35% specific similarity and 65% generic similarity with Tuxtlas, Veracruz, and represents 12.3% of the lamellicornia species cited for Mexico. Nine endemic species are considered threatened by forest destruction: Plesiosternus setosus, Plusiotis terroni, P. taylori, P. aurotoveata. Onzabus endrodianiis, Peltotrlchlus linea, Cotinis orientalis, Spurius halffteri and Oileus nonstriatus. A key to the taxa found in these mountains is included.
